TEDS: The Church in a “Hostile” World – 1 of 14

“The Word of God is always subversive.”

Dr. David Pao

Dean David Pao opens this chapel series of fourteen addresses. The overall theme of the series is ‘The Church in a “Hostile” World’. The impetus, design, and goals of this sermon series are seen in the following description from the TEDS chapel page.

As the people of God face various kinds of pressure and persecution both globally and locally, there is a need for the church to (re)learn how to live within a hostile environment all the while being fully aware of our need to repent and self-reflect in the recognition that “evil” does not simply reside in the “other.” This series therefore aims at informing the audience of the reality of the struggles we face this side of heaven while providing proper exhortation for God’s people to remain faithful to the gospel we preach.

Our hope is that this series will stir up an eagerness for approaching God’s word and that the Bible will continue to be the ultimate authority in your life. We pray that as you participate in listening, discussion, reflection, and prayer that your biblical understanding of these topics and scripture will deepen your faith, confidence, and theological grounding.
